Dr. Mohamed Cheikh Banane is a distinguished professor of public law and political science. He previously served on the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences at Hassan I University in Settat, Morocco. Currently, he holds the same position at the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences on the Ait Melloul Campus, Ibn Zohr University, Morocco.
Dr. Banane earned his Ph.D. in Public Law, specializing in Constitutional Law and Political Science, from Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakech, in 2014. He also holds a postgraduate diploma (Master’s equivalent) in the same discipline, obtained in 2007, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, awarded in 2004, all from Cadi Ayyad University.
Currently, Dr. Banane serves as the Head of the Department of Public Law and Political Science and as the Coordinator of the Master’s Program on Spiritual Diplomacy and Political Transformations in Africa. He is also an active member of the Research Laboratory on Public Law and Political Science and leads the Research Team on Legal, Political, and Social Dynamics at the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences, Ait Melloul, Ibn Zohr University.
Dr. Mohamed cheikh Banane has authored numerous scholarly studies and articles published in classified Moroccan and international journals, and several works are still forthcoming. Among his notable publications are Jamaat Al-Adl Wa Al-Ihsan and Political Participation in Morocco. From Uprising to Reform (First Edition, 2014, Badawi Publishing House, Germany), The Religious Question in the Discourse of Morocco’s New Left (2020, Ghawayat Publishing House, Lebanon) and The State in the Thought of Islamic Movements in Morocco (2016, Center for Arab Unity Studies, Beirut), as part of the Doctoral thesis series. He also contributed to a collective volume on The Maghrebi Women’s Movement (2020) and a collaborative study published by the Takamul Center for Studies and Research titled Local Elites and Decision-Making: The case of Guelmim-Oued Noun Region (2016).
Dr. Banane has undertaken and supervised numerous studies on civil society for institutions such as the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
An active member of the editorial boards of several academic journals, Dr. Banane also serves as a peer reviewer for various international research centers. His scholarly focus extends to applying academic expertise to analyze political, cultural, and feminist transformations in Africa and the Islamic world.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Banane is a dedicated civil society activist with experience in multiple human rights and trade union organizations. He has participated in numerous national and international training programs on human rights and civil matters. Dr. Banane also has a decade of experience as a senior official in Morocco’s Ministry of National Education, where he managed legal, disciplinary, and litigation affairs, internal audits, and initiatives to combat violence in educational settings.His email address is [email protected].
